Hispanic Unity of Florida, Inc. (HUF) will operate the preventative program for parent education and enrichment of children's potential from gestation to 12 months. Nuestras Familias is designed to be culturally relevant to Latino families and the needs and barriers they encounter. It is culturally attuned to the Latino community, with Spanish used to maximize understanding and learning and to increase the comfort level of participating parents. The innovative nature of this program is that it is a holistic, long-term prevention program that provides a twelve (12) to fourteen (14) month continuum of care for the low-income Latino mother ( and where available, father) and child, including pre- and post-birth parent education and enrichment of the child's potential from birth through 12 months. The unique feature of this program is that a Latino mother's pregnancy and child development will be tracked for a period up to fourteen (14) months (last 8 weeks of pregnancy, 12 months of child's participation in program, and follow-up).

The program is open to all Broward County residents, although the emphasis will be on serving parents and children in the southern part of the County ( Hallandale, Dania, Hollywood, Miramar and Pembroke Pines.)
